Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos yesterday remanded Sodiq Bello, a 28-year-old man, in prison custody for alleged assault and attempted rape.
He will remain in Kirikiri prison custody pending perfection of his bail conditions.
The defendant was arraigned for allegedly attempting to rape a woman.
Bello, who lives at Adexson in Igando, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of assault and attempted rape.
The prosecutor, Kenneth Asibor, a Superintendent of Police (SUPOL), alleged that the defendant invited the victim to his home and after entertaining her, demanded sex.
He said the woman refused.
He said Bello allegedly tore her trousers in an attempt to sleep with her and left her naked.
Asibor said neighbours gave the victim wrapper to cover her body.
He said the incident was reported at the Igando Police Division, and Bello was detained.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate T.O. Shomade granted bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in the like sum.
He ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody pending when he would perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till November 21 for hearing.
