Former World Bank Vice President and co-convener of the “bring back our girls” movement, Obi Ezekwesili has raised alarm over the spate of vote buying which she says may ruin the prospects of the Osun state governorship election in September and ultimately jeopardize the twenty-nineteen general elections.
Speaking at a meeting with officials of the international movement against election malpractices, in Abuja, Ezekwesili described vote buying as a glorious rape of democracy capable of destroying the gains of civilian government in Africa’s biggest economy, Nigeria.
The view of the “bring back our girls” proponent was echoed by the lead person of the rights group Kenedy Iyere who also called for proactive measures by the Nigerian government to end vote buying at any cost.
The forum equally discussed inter-governmental collaboration aimed at rebranding African politics in line with evolving global political trend.
